I hear this a lot: ‘I could never do that’. Or ‘that is impossible’. And you know what they say: if you think you can, you can. If you think you can’t, then you can’t! This holds true for everything. Whether it’s changing up your nutrition, fitness program, your marriage, starting a business, and even organizing a fundraiser. My mom was and is the best teacher for this life lesson for me. She is like an animal when it comes to her commitments. I learned this from her! Thanks mom! I love it.
It’s not that you CANNOT do it (whatever IT is). The hard truth is that you just don’t want to.
Discipline is a word that seems bad. It reminds me of disciplining a child. Telling them “no, you can’t do that”. YES, yes…I get that disciplining a child is important. Stay with me here. As adults, Discipline is like we are being forced to do something we don’t want to do or think we should do.
Commitment, however, is strong and unbreakable. Yes, It takes effort, guts, and dedication. But you are solid in your decision. You make a promise to yourself that you will not quit. It’s not even that hard once you’ve made the conscious decision to COMMIT. You have a non-negotiable with yourself!
So whatever IT is for you, make a commitment! And if you really don’t want to make a commitment, just say “I don’t wanna do that”. Instead of “I can’t do that”. Because “I can’t do that” is usually an excuse and not the truth.
