A 4-step recipe on throwback Thursday


I want to share something that might be helpful for a lot of people. A recipe, if you will. These are the steps that I’ve taken in order to FEEL my best. 

1. Focus HARD on nutrition. I eat a lot of healthy fat (avocado, olive oil, nuts, olives, coconut oil, grassfed butter), meat, fish, eggs, vegetables. Limited fruit and limited dairy. NO SUGAR. NO GRAINS. And get this, it doesn’t have to taste like cardboard. It tastes GOOD!  Does this mean I never have pizza or beer??  Heck no!  I DO eat and drink that stuff…  1 or maaaaybe 2 meals (NOT DAYS, meals) per week I eat stuff OFF my plan. I DO like drinking a nice dark beer sometimes.  Pizza is life, my friends. I will never give it up for all of eternity. But only 1 time per week do I have it. And I enjoy the hell outta that pizza. For beer, it depends. I TRY to limit that. If I do drink, I try to drink whiskey instead. Just straight up. Or you could do vodka and la Croix. That works too. 

2. Find some kind of fitness YOU like. Some people LOVE group classes. Some people love lifting weights alone. Some people like biking. The key is finding something you like. No one wants to be forced to do something they hate for an hour. Also, you do not need to kill yourself in the gym for hours and hours. 30 min to an hour per day. 

3. Intermittent fasting. This is eating your 3 meals per day in a window. Preferably 8 hour window but 9 or 10 hours you could still see benefit. This doesn’t mean restricting your calories to a really small deficit.  Just means you’re eating that food in a window of 11 AM to 7 or 8 PM. 

4. Use the buddy system. You are more likely to succeed when you have a buddy keeping you on track. You don’t want to let your friend down!
